Comedy Carrier

At a meeting with comedian Frankie Boyle when Sloss was sixteen, his mother brought up her son. Boyle gave Sloss professional experience by contributing a tiny quantity of material to two seasons of the BBC comedy show Mock the Week. He attributes his initial success to Boyle because this was his big break.

After finishing a two-day stand-up comedy school, Sloss gave her debut performance at The Laughing Horse in Edinburgh in August 2007.

His opening set lasted for five minutes. When he was 18 years old, he managed his own monthly LOL comedy club at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy for a full year.

In August 2008, he performed at his debut Edinburgh Festival Fringe alongside fellow comic Davey See. As part of the Free Fringe, Life in 2D was shown in the Espionage theatre for ten days. Daniel Sloss: My Generation, Sloss’ second solo performance, was a complete sellout at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2010. In September, the show moved to London for a run at the Soho Theatre, and in November, it made a second trip back for a performance at the Bloomsbury Theatre. Following this performance, he embarked on his first-ever headline live tour, touring Scotland throughout the autumn of 2010.Even at the young age of 20, Daniel Sloss sold out a nearly four-week run of his brand-new performance, Daniel Sloss – The Joker, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2011. Challenges and Success

Daniel Sloss, a Scottish comedian, made his international debut just over a year ago when Netflix released his two back-to-back specials, Dark and Jigsaw. It goes without saying that the 29-year-old comic was already well known for his startling and, occasionally, disturbing style to stand-up at important festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe and many others across the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the United States. But his Netflix debut cemented his success in these different scenes and formally made him known to American comedy fans.

Now, with his impending HBO debut, Daniel Sloss: X, he’s set to enter a much wider and more contentious discussion about stand-up comedy, “punching up” versus “punching down,” and other similar themes that have ensnared people like Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr. And he is certainly prepared for it. The majority of American audiences have seen Sloss’s gags about the #MeToo movement and toxic masculinity from his off-Broadway run of X, which also travelled to several other cities earlier this year. But because of HBO, even more people will hear them.

During a recent chat I had with him, Sloss joked that he was going to get fired because of the publicity X’s HBO premiere would undoubtedly bring him. Regardless of if that is the case (and it most likely isn’t), comedy lovers, new viewers, and comedians alike should check in on Saturday to hear what Sloss has to say.
