Before beginning his career, he received his communication degree from Ohio University. Unger has been employed as a spokesperson for both Yoo-hoo and Maxwell House Coffee. He makes an appearance in a 2008 BMW movie about testing BMW diesel vehicles on a 500-mile road trip from South Carolina to Virginia. The purpose of the movie was to increase public awareness of the risks associated with using diesel vehicles in the US. Later, Unger was named the official spokesperson for the BMW Advanced Diesel.
